Best Fuel Credit Cards in India

Fuel is excluded from rewards on most cards. Co-branded fuel cards (BPCL, HPCL) are the main exception, but they only work at one brand.

What the numbers show: IndianOil RBL Bank XTRA Credit Card leads this list at ₹6,480 a year on fuel after its share of the fee (₹8,920 net on the whole profile), about ₹855 ahead of BPCL SBI Card OCTANE. This list is ranked on that category only, not on the whole profile.

How to read this ranking

Fuel is excluded from rewards on most cards, so the top of this list is fuel-brand cards, and each earns its high rate only at its own pumps. Lower down, general cards appear only because their data shows a base rate that is not carved out for fuel; issuers often exclude fuel in the fine print, so treat those rows as upper bounds. RBL IndianOil XTRA pays 15 Fuel Points per ₹100 at IndianOil outlets (₹0.50 a point in our data, so 7.5%), capped at 2,000 points a month, which is about ₹13,300 of fuel spend. BPCL SBI Octane pays 25 points per ₹100 at BPCL pumps, capped at 2,500 points a month (about ₹10,000 of spend); at ₹0.25 a point that is 6.25%. Their annual fees (₹1,500 and ₹1,499) are waived at ₹2.75 lakh and ₹2 lakh of spend, which this persona meets.

The ranking assumes that 40% (XTRA) and 50% (Octane) of your fuel spend is at the card's own brand (our assumption, shown in each card's notes), which works out at an average fuel return of about 3.6% for XTRA (7.5% on 40%, 2 points per ₹100 on the rest) and about 3.1% for Octane (6.25% on 50%, nothing on the rest). XTRA leads Octane by about ₹855 a year on fuel alone (₹6,480 against ₹5,625), so the order flips if your pumps are mostly BPCL. If every pump near you is another brand, the card earns 2 Fuel Points per ₹100 at best (XTRA) or nothing (Octane), and a card with a fuel-surcharge waiver may suit you better; a waiver is usually worth about ₹60 a month on ₹6,000 of fuel (see our fuel surcharge guide). The BPCL SBI Octane data is partly verified.

Figures come from the issuers' own terms as recorded on each card page (sources and check dates are listed there). Estimates, not offers.
